Will size be the demise of your community?

I have my academic hat back on and am doing research for the social media class I will teach this next semester. One of the areas I have been spending a lot of time on is the actual design of a community and how it should look in relationship to specific goals and objectives for an organization or initiative. Unfortunately there aren't any templates for this, just as there are no templates for traditional, physical communities. In my opinion, specified goals and objectives set the stage for the… Continue

The recent Morgan Stanley Report regarding teen usage of social media has generated a lot of discussion. What caught my eye was twitter and the statement, "Teens don’t use Twitter because no one is reading their tweets. Twitter is totaContinue

Oklahoma Twitter Study

What follows is a work in progress so please disregard errors/typos/etc. My reason for posting this as a work in progress is simple, this is some important data and no place to collect the conversations surrounding it – consider this a surrogate. The original title of this post was, “That @mattgalloway”, which I will explain later.

For those of you who don’t know anything about what I am about to talk about let me provide two links:

April 7 is #PSATuesday - Win my money for your favorite cause!

There is an awful lot of talk on social media and not a lot of doing. Go ahead and argue the point but I assure you, the doing part pales in comparison to the talking part.

I'm not complaining about pointless tweets. Heck, occasionally I post a photo of my dog or a funny sign. But what I am concerned about is with all the power Twitter (and other social media tools) has, with its ability to join so many in so many ways (for example, my students use it to share information other students in clas… Continue

Yes, I have created a facebook page. I already have several friends, mostly from high school (which was nice b/c I haven't heard from some of them for several years). I am still trying to figure everything out, though.
