Oklahoma Social Media Club

Professionals, Academics and Students - Come Share and Learn

I am a junior at Oklahoma State University, and I am writing a story for my reporting class. My topic is about the benefits of social media to new graduates. I would love to have sources that are actively engaged in social media. I've posted a few key questions; feel free to give responses to any or all of them. Thanks so much, and I look forward to reading your opinions.

5 Key Questions:

1. Has anyone used Twitter to successfully pitch a story? If so, tell me about it.

2. What benefits do you get from engaging in conversations on the Oklahoma Social Media Club site?

3. In your opinion, what is the purpose of creating a blog?

4. Do any of you use social media sites in your everyday jobs? If so, how do you use it?

5. Do you think the development of social media will change the traditional job search and interview process? Why or why not?

1. Yes, I've been pitched a number of times recently by social media analysis companies over twitter, and through those contacts, I've interviewed the companies, and either published an article or I am in the process of writing an articles.

2. answer your questions

3. A blog is just a website with a content management system and commenting for posts. What's important is to build a process for building relationships with your wider community. Answering comments on your own blog, conducting outreach to other bloggers in your community. As for goals, they depend upon your organizations goals, whether they be sales, thought leadership, or education. A blog is a communications tool.

4. I've certainly done this in the course of my career, connecting with other people who are bloggers, using social media analysis tools to find opportunities for discussion.

5. Interview process I sure hope so, but I have not seen any changes so far. Job search, I think it already has, linkedin has had a big impact for recruiters it is quite easy to find the right candidates, if you are prepared to dig.
